EBC SoCal 2023: In-Depth Recap

The Elite Basketball Circuit (EBC) kicked off its 2023-24 Basketball campaign with EBC SoCal this past weekend.  Over 300 Boys and Girls competed in the 2-day event featuring some of the top players in the middle school space on the West Coast. Taking place in Orange County, California, the elite SoCal event proved to be a hub for OC youth basketball, with the top players showcasing their skills throughout different portions of the camp which included Queen of the Court, King of the Court, 3 Point Contest, all-star games and more!

AWARD WINNERS

Boys

8th Grade (2028)

  • MVP: King Johnson – The 6’0” high-level impact guard had an outstanding weekend averaging 30 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 3 APG, and 3 SPG.  Johnson’s offensive skillset was beyond everyone else at the camp.  He has an impressive handle, vision, and is a three-level scorer.
  • Outstanding Performers: David Gorodezki, Jayden Garibay, Noah Kirsch-Lopez, Shalen Sheppard, and Tim Wurmlinger 
  • King of the Court: Shalen Sheppard
  • Hustle: Tavien Bell
  • Defense: Ryan Doane
  • Playmaker: Lucky Davis

7th Grade (2029)

  • MVP: Quali Giran – The smooth and skilled guard took over the Top 20 All-Star game by dominating on the open floor.  Giran dished out 7 assists, including 5 straight assists in the key moments of the game and had 9 points that led his team to victory.  Overall, Giran averaged 22.5 PPG, 6 RPG and 3.3 APG.
  • Outstanding Performers: Dekoda Ray, Donnell Meekins, Jacobi Thompson, Krawford Bailey, and Phillip Reed
  • King of the Court: Phillip Reed
  • Hustle: Freddie Forbes
  • Defense: Mychal McQueen

6th Grade (2030)

  • MVP: King Harris – King made his presence known as soon as he stepped in the gym.  He has great size and a developed skillset that allows him to dominate offensively and defensively.  King averaged 26.5 PPG and 13 RPG and also took home the KOTC championship.
  • Outstanding Performers: Honor Tyler (2031), Jackson Elcott, Jeremy Combs, Noah Austin, Zyere Bowman
  • King of the Court: King Harris
  • Hustle: Kaleb Kim
  • Defense: Noah Hale
  • Playmaker: Andrew Pisarnwongs

5th Grade (2031)

  • MVP: Damauri Cosby – The versatile lead guard that can shoot and handle the rock had a terrific Top 20 game leading his team to victory.  Cosby finished with 14 Points, 10 Rebounds and 3 Assists.
  • Outstanding Performers: Cole Smith, Rashaad King, William Artope, Xavier Latham, and Zai Robinson
  • King of the Court: Damauri Cosby
  • Hustle: Robert Doehler
  • Defense: Dannon Castillo
  • Playmaker: Travis Vipond

4th Grade (2032)

  • MVP: Allen Carapetian The Arizona native lead his class in scoring with 16.3 PPG, won King of the Court, and led his Top 20 team to victory after putting in 12 points and 2 assists.
  • Outstanding Performers:  Avery Robinson, Grayson James Meekins, Kingston Bailey, Ryan Yakhi, and Wade Bonam
  • King of the Court: Allen Carapetian
  • Hustle: Adam Bagatsing
  • Defense: Jaeden Paneda
  • Playmaker: Tristan Cody

3rd Grade (2033)

  • MVP: Cai Brown – Cai had a terrific camp averaging 12.5 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 4 APG playing up a grade level.  Cai led his Top 20 team to victory, putting up 20 points and 13 rebounds.
  • Outstanding Performers:  Akihiko Hudgins, Jace Aurelio, Nicholas Artope, Truss Wiggins, and Zo Peterson
  • Hustle:  Aaron Lavi
  • Defense: Wes Lin
  • Playmaker: Mekhai McQueen

GIRLS

8th Grade (2028)

  • MVP: Jessica Liu – Liu is a high IQ guard that controls the game by providing teammates with open looks while also being able to knock it down from deep. Liu averaged 16.3 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 4 APG.
  • Outstanding Performers:  Alyssa Canizal, Amya Guzman, Destinee Watson-Tidwell, Leah Sasaki, and Tezakaiya Johnson-Nash
  • Hustle: Stacy Yoshioka 
  • Defense: Naomi Kemle
  • Playmaker: Gianna Giglio
  • 3PT Shooting Contest: Leah Sasaki

7th Grade (2029)

  • MVP: Addison Archer – The most outstanding girls’ player at the camp is a terrific talent. She has terrific footwork and is a fierce competitor.  Addison averaged 19.5 PPG, 8 RPG and 3 APG for the weekend.
  • Outstanding Performers:  Adori Ross, Alanah Camacho, Iyla Jones, Kyndall Williams, and Laecy Wilkins 
  • King of the Court:  Addison Archer
  • Hustle: Jordyn Jefferson
  • Defense: Malia Amerson
  • Playmaker: Elise Vipond

6th Grade (2030)

  • MVP: Jadyn Van Horn – Van Horn is a tremendous competitor that enjoys contact, but also is a highly skilled ball handler and shooter.  Van Horn played up at the camp, but still managed to average 16.3 PPG and 7.5 RPG. 
  • Outstanding Performers: Calista Monroe, Giselle Monroe, Nayeli Herrera, Rayah Hawthorne, and Viviana E. Morales
  • King of the Court: Nayeli Herrera
  • Hustle: Lucy Inocencio
  • Defense: Remi Sumpter
  • Playmaker: Mariam Williams

5th Grade (2031)

  • MVP: Jazmine Edwards – Edwards had a terrific camp showcasing her lead guard skills.  She communicates well on defense and works well in both the half-court and fast break offenses.
  • Outstanding Performers: Dehlana Silva, Gemma Anacone, Harper Lewis, Kali Montgomery,  and Kaylie Rudinger

4th Grade (2032)

  • MVP: Layla Malcom – Malcom has excellent size and the skillset to be an impact player.  She held her own in the paint by rebounding and blocking/altering shots even while playing up a level.  She averaged 7.5 RPG.
  • Outstanding Performers:  Addison Tanioka, Alani Cook, Bailei Hudgins, Taedyn Freeman and Vivian Carrion
  • Hustle: Julienne Hsi
